He was born in 1938 as the son of a rural Alabama sharecropper. With only a high school education and several technical school experiences, he embarked on a career as a hardware engineer, specializing in large mainframe computers. Despite not having a formal engineering degree, "engineer" was often part of his job title. His true education, however, unfolded through the pages of countless books on science, psychology, and philosophy. Throughout his life, he had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, always seeking answers to the mysteries of existence. Even though he grew up surrounded by deeply religious family and friends, with his father serving as a deacon in the Baptist Church, he never identified as a religious person. From his early twenties, he embraced the label of an atheist, although it didn't fully capture his beliefs. He always sensed the presence of a higher intelligence, but he felt uneasy with the traditional concept of God found in organized religion. Instead, he saw himself as a mystic, having a deep belief in something greater, even if its exact nature eluded him. It wasn't until his 85th year of life that he believed he came remarkably close to discovering what he had been searching for. In his upcoming book, he aimed to share his profound insights and reflections, offering a glimpse into his evolving understanding of life's mysteries.
